Gothenburg’s Hollow Ship set out with grand ambitions. Musically, they’ve mined their sixties influences (think early Pink Floyd) without miming them; instead, they look to them to set a road map for the future. ‘We Were Kings’, littered with references to the Greek tragedy of Icarus and spinning a tale of fallen empires, is a powerful statement of intent from a band who refuse to operate within self-imposed parameters.
