Hoodz9 born all the way in Eritrea spent the better part of his young life in Kenya. Upon moving to Canada in 2011 as a young teen hoodz9 was quickly required to learn English as a first language, something he did with the help of music. With an early start of singing melodies and writing poems he was able to feel out and ultimately develop his own undeniably unique sound. Early influences that helped shape hoodz9’s appreciation of rap were acts such as Joey Badass, Schoolboy Q and others. The oldest of three siblings and with their father out of the picture hoodz9 was very quickly required to handle all sorts of responsibilities. Alongside providing for his family hoodz9 unfortunately had several run ins with schools and eventually the law. After spending months on house arrest as a result of betrayal by a then close friend hoodz9 had a lot of pent up aggression and rather doing what he would’ve done in the past he decided to try a different outlet - music. Within a month hoodz9 had already written and completed 90 songs until another run in with the law as a result of mistaken identity led in permanent confiscation of his phone which led him to lose everything and restart again. Rather then getting discouraged and giving up hoodz9 dusted himself off and went back at it harder and smarter then ever before. Starting off with fellow local artists such as OT9 they collectively released “watch her” over two years ago on YouTube and further collaborated with artists on SoundCloud
