Indagroove (IDG) is a collective of musicians from SE London led by Simon Coates (gtr), Christian Beck (sax) and Clint Williams (bass). The ‘da’ in the name refers to the Dartford postcode where most of the band reside. The collective formed in the late 1990s but did not start releasing its original material until 2020.
IDG start from a solid funk foundation but like to mix it up with jazz, soul, latin, rock, classical and elements of EDM. The result is a diverse set of sounds but with a unifying solid groove.
Following the untimely passing of guitarist - and absolute diamond of a bloke - Dave Price in 2022, the collective are back with a new album (June 2024) featuring recently acquired stragglers Jonny Wengrowe (keys) and Mike Connolly (drums), bringing the style firmly back within the realms of jazz, funk and soul.
Members of the band have worked with all sorts of people, some of whom used to be famous (even Grammerly nominated). But who really cares?
Our band philosophy - and this has kept us together all these years - centres around kindness, tolerance, respect, altruism, great food (home cooked), great conversation, too much booze and having a bloody good laugh. In a world ever more divided by populism and conflict, we believe these pursuits represent the key to humanity’s salvation. Sign up to the IDG ideology today (requires a donation in excess of US$1m) and receive a ‘free’ LP and T-shirt. For that we’ll even throw in a gig and a can of Red Stripe...
