Since he was a teenager, Timothy Nelson has been a mainstay within the Perth music scene. To date, Nelson has won 14 WAM Awards (West Australian Music), including Song of The Year, Album of The Year, Best Male Vocalist, and Best Pop Act. It’s no surprise that his latest project Indoor Fins was quick to gain the attention of fellow musicians and in 2018 he released his debut single The Come Down Was Real, a collaboration with ARIA Award-winning hip-hop artist Drapht, which was quick to receive high rotation from triple j and saw Indoor Fins travel Australia to perform the song.
Since then Indoor Fins have gone from strength to strength, releasing more collaborations and gaining the attention of New York based label Underwater Peoples who will announce the signing the same day as the release of Indoor Fins’ newest single Antidote.
Nelson immediately established new ground with the self-produced track opening with some re-pitched vocal chops over a wonky, UK garage-inspired backbeat, before tumbling into an 80’s shuffle groove reminiscent of Tears For Fears and Stevie Wonder. Nelson’s trademark falsetto carries the song, as it weaves through a glossy parade of sonic intricacies. Not only that, it’s an ear worm to boot.
