‘Thick, dirty, fuzzed out blues, soaked in the shadows of both old and new. Feels rooted in a gothic American past with modern twists and sonics, smothered in Jhett’s warm baritone.’
-The White Buffalo

‘Jhett Black has made one of the heaviest swinging, bluesy roots rock albums I’ve heard in a long time. His voice is undeniable. The melodies and grooves all over this release are catchy and tasty as hell! All killer, no filler.’
-Shawn James

‘Babel’ Releasing Sep. 8, 2023 is at once a deep dive into the depths of the delta and an expedition into the future of blues music. After the successes of Jhett Black’s debut EP, ‘Roots’ and wins at the International Blues Challenge 2022, Jhett embarked on an self-produced excursion alongside Glenn Halverson, Al Basil, and Callie Sioux, growing up and out of traditional territories of the blues while maintaining the integrity of the genre.

The dark, and heavy content of the record is emphasized with the smooth and intimate croons of Jhett’s bass/baritone voice that explodes into passionate growls that breaks down the boundaries between rock, soul, and blues. Resonator slide guitars howl and drone with traditional dead-thumb stylings against overly fuzzed guitar tones that carry most of the melodic content while the heavily swung shuffles of Dusty Skins holds down southern grooves with reverence and intensity.
