Jon English's career spanned rock music, stage musicals, television, and cabaret. He fronted the dance band Sebastian Hardie before joining the Australian stage production of "Jesus Christ Superstar" in 1972, performing in 705 shows and appearing on the Original Cast album. His solo career took off with hits like "Turn the Page" and "Words Are Not Enough." English starred in the TV mini-series "Against the Wind," which became a hit in Scandinavia and the U.K. He released several albums, including "Hollywood Seven," "Calm Before the Storm," and "Inroads," and toured extensively.
In the 1990s, English returned to stage musicals, playing roles in "The Pirates of Penzance," "The Mikado," and "H.M.S. Pinafore." He also appeared in the TV series "All Together Now" and released the "Best of Jon English 20th Anniversary Album." English continued to tour and perform in various productions, including "Buskers and Angels" and "The Rock Show," which featured classic rock music from the '60s and '70s.
In 2016, English was hospitalized due to health issues and passed away following complications from surgery. A public memorial service was held at the Capitol Theatre in Sydney, celebrating his life and career.
