Juma Tutu is a renowned artiste,
proficient saxophonist, vocalist
and music director.
As the originator of Swahili Jazz,
his music is largely influenced by
the coastal genres of Bango,
Mwanzele, Sengenya, Taarab and
blended with jazz and popular music.
Renowned for his hit
Sukari, Juma appeals to a

He has had the privilege of being
on stage with his musical hero
Manu di Bango and acclaimed South
African jazz guitarist Jimmy
Dludlu.
As a band leader, he has made
appearances at Coke Studio and

Safaricom Jazz festival, Blankets
and Wine festival and Zanzibar
festival. Juma has also collaborated with Italian
Jazzist Matteo di leonardo, Japanese
trumpeter Emi Kitasako and Ken Yamamoto.
In 2018, the

recognised him
as a national
hero and
earned the HEAD
of State
Commendation
