Kaíoti is the new project of singer-songwriter, Carter McNeil. Founding member of former psych-punk band, Ghost King, McNeil has exchanged the gritty, spine-chilling sonority, once a cornerstone of Ghost King, for a new, sleeker sonic dimension. While retaining the psychedelic spirit of his formative songwriting past, McNeil has honed in on his imaginative and emphatic writing style for what he hopes will “provoke listeners’ deep consciousness.” Kaíoti emerges as a more focused, sonically stunning ecosystem of synths and glimmery guitars bobbing up and down like balloons from the relentless grooves punching below, all while the listener is taken to the “far away” that McNeil croons over on songs like “Any Hour.”
Drawing influences from Arcade Fire and MGMT, “Any Hour” becomes an internal voyage, like seeing shapes and colors with your eyes closed. “Any Hour is largely about time and the feeling that your life is running away from you, outside of you, faster and faster,” says McNeil. “It’s so easy to become complacent when you’re lost, to sit in your sadness. But sitting around won’t stop time, it won’t stop life."
