Deviated from the philosophical term catharsis, the bandname stands for the inner purgation of the soul through untamed aggressive eruption.
Formed in Winter 2007, Kathartik started as an extreme metal project between B. on drums and Vharst on guitars, serving as a creative outburst for their juvenile energy.
After having tracked down first ideas as demos in 2008 and 2009, they began writing material for their demo album 'Sublime Decay', for which Siegfried joined on vocals. It was released in early 2013 and various live appearances were performed with a full line up.
The upcoming period was marked by constant changes in personnel, but with the core remaining the same, the band continued working on material regardless of the appearing setbacks. During the recording process for the planned debut album, M. was recruited on guitars and with a more refined focus on their specific style, the band channelled their hitherto musical experiences into the album "Mind.Abyss.Terror", whose title speaks for itself. It was released physical and digital on December 17th 2019.
Aside from bringing aural devastation to the stages, the members keep concentrating on their creative progress to continue forging the band’s unorthodox take on black & death metal.
