As a member of the eclectic hip-hop outfit OverDoz., Kent Jamz had already made a name for himself before branching out on his own, first with the collaborative 2020 EP Janktape, Vol. 1 with fellow L.A.-based rapper Buddy, and then with his debut solo album, 2022's Fanclub.

Born in Atlanta but raised in Los Angeles, Kent Jamz first founded OverDoz. in 2008 alongside Cream, Joon, and P. Following a slew of mixtapes, the outfit signed a deal with RCA and dropped their debut album, 2008, in 2017. Following the album's release, Jamz started working with fellow L.A. rapper Buddy, who had been introduced to Jamz by Pharrell Williams a few years earlier. The pair, who had bonded over music, started to help each other write and produce their own solo albums just before the COVID-19 pandemic hit. With both projects put on hold, they issued the collaborative EP Janktape, Vol. 1 as a precursor to their own material. Jamz’s debut album eventually dropped in 2022, with Fanclub featuring collaborations with the likes of GoodJoon (aka Joon), Buddy, and A$AP Ferg. ~ Rich Wilson, Rovi
