I am a rap artist from Douala, Cameroon, living in London, England. My new album is called Escape Route. It is inspired by real events.
A few years ago I travelled home to visit the family for the first time in about a decade. I had forgotten just how bright and colourful the country was. I didn't think I would but I wrestled with culture shock and for a time, my surroundings felt alien to me. The heat I grew up in was now uncomfortable. I struggled to cope with it. The street markets that skilled me for life no longer accepted me and I felt out of place.
Besides my cultural inadequacies as a Cameroonian, I had forgotten how much I loved the people; how uplifting, witty and funny some of my family members were. I had forgotten how much range and depth they had to their humour and unique personalities.
This album stems from that trip. It is dedicated to my broken but ever-present family. You bring joy, not only to me but also to the world.
