It’s Sunday night in 2013 somewhere in the suburbs of Tampa, Florida. You decide to hop into a dive bar named The Drunken Monkey just as a band takes the stage. You do a double take and see that the lead singer of the band can’t be more than 13. As the kid effortlessly switches from Skynyrd to Green Day to Linkin Park you think to yourself, wow that kid’s good. That 13 year old sneaking into bars to perform with bands was Ev Frederick the artist now known as KIND VILLAIN.
Today, when you go to a KIND VILLAIN show and see the intensity, the crowd control, the poise and confidence, you’re seeing a front man that is seasoned well beyond what his age might lead you to believe.
He displays a diversity with his vocal influences that’s as big as his range. It would be futile to try and say which genres he pulls into his own world, let’s just say all of them.
It’s no surprise Kind Villain has been nominated for best concert 3 times by Creative Loafing Best Of The Bay awards and won best release for his reimagined cover of Khalid’s “8teen”.
But there’s more: In the studio Ev teams up with Paul Trust to become an unstoppable duo. Paul is a 3x Platinum producer, songwriter, musician and mixer.
Trust: “The greatest thing about working with EV is that early on we decided that there are no rules. We’ll take inspiration from any genre and try anything because we know in the end it will sound like Kind Villain because of EV’s vocal performance”.
