L.A. Takedown is a cinematic instrumental rock project helmed by Los Angeles-based composer/musician Aaron M. Olson, along with a revolving cast of additional contributors. Inspired equally by prog and Krautrock as well as film and television scores, the group's releases, such as 2017's II, are equally suitable as a soundtrack for cruising through the desert as well as beach escapades.
Named after a made-for-television 1989 crime thriller, L.A. Takedown began as a solo home recording project. Its first release was Top Down (Heater On), a cassette issued by Burger Records in 2014, but the project's official debut album arrived a year later on Ribbon Music. The eponymous full-length consisted of a single 41-minute epic which was also self-titled. Olson established a band to perform the piece live, and the group began touring, as well as performing live film scores. L.A. Takedown's II was recorded at a home studio with producer Shane Stonebeck, the band rounded out by keyboard players Ryan Adlaf and Jonah Olson, guitarists Miles Wintner and Stephen Heath, bassist Jessica Espeleta, and drummer Mose Wintner. Ribbon Music released II in 2017. Our Feeling of Natural High appeared on Castle Face on 2020, featuring guest appearances by Yukihiro Takahashi (Yellow Magic Orchestra) and Nedelle Torrisi. ~ Paul Simpson, Rovi
