A msg from Laura:

I've removed my music from Spotify. If you’ve been listening to me on this platform, I’m sorry but you’ll find me anywhere else. I implore you to stop using their service for the reasons outlined below.

As of April 1 2024, Spotify has demonetized all tracks with less than 1,000 streams (ie the work of HEAPS of independent artists). Prior to that, they were already one of the lowest-paying streaming providers - paying artists only $0.003 per stream. Tidal, Apple Music and believe it or not - NAPSTER pay artists a little more fairly. Bandcamp is obviously the best. The ux on these apps is nowhere near as good. It's frustrating. You will miss some elements of Spotify.
However, I can't think of a better analogy than this one: Spotify is the cage egg of streaming platforms. It's unethical to continue to give them money.

A few more things to consider:
1) They've made lyrics a premium feature, effectively charging for accessibility.
2) They're funding AI defence technology.
3) Changing platforms is not hard. This software will move all your playlists over to your new profile with a different streaming platform: https://www.tunemymusic.com/. Most platforms offer a free 1 month trial so you can try them all!

Spotify’s recent changes impact artists like me, and continue their tradition of devaluing music. Musicians have had a raw deal for the longest time, and I don’t want to participate in this shitty business model any more.
