It was all started when he was astonished by a prodigy in a classical piano concert that was held in Jakarta in 2007. Brought by his parents to the concert to see this young boy playing the piano and Lay was standing still throughout the concert by a sense of awe. Then he started to learn classical piano when he was 8, under auspices of a professor from Germany, and he was sent by his parents to Germany (Tübingen) to finish his course when he was merely 15. And eventually, in several years ahead, he got attracted to Jazz genre when he started to go to jazz clubs regularly and he also love to hear jazz standard songs that are sung and played by the famous jazz artists like <a href="spotify:artist:5V0MlUE1Bft0mbLlND7FJz" data-name="Ella Fitzgerald">Ella Fitzgerald</a>, <a href="spotify:artist:6C65D20ASusYqHGSIktfED" data-name="Erroll Garner">Erroll Garner</a>, and <a href="spotify:artist:0kbYTNQb4Pb1rPbbaF0pT4" data-name="Miles Davis">Miles Davis</a>. His love to jazz brought him to the eagerness to learn another instruments that are usually applied in jazz music, for instance the saxophone, flute, and guitar. Thanks for the piano as his basic, so he could cope those instruments by himself.
