“It all began when one of us was Leaving Laurel”.
For Leaving Laurel, their music is a story of an old friendship that over many years, almost accidentally, blossomed into a musical collaboration.
Birthed in late 2019, American artist Pierce Fulton and Canadian producer Gordon Huntley together as Leaving Laurel have developed a penchant for introspective melodic electronic music.
Inspired by their time together in the hills of Laurel Canyon, and from their formative experiments recording into old cassette tape players, the project materialized seemingly out of thin air - something neither of them knew they were looking for.
Chasing the nostalgic sound that came from their first collaborations, the pair finished their debut self-titled album at the start of 2021, just prior to a horrible tragedy.
Pierce passed away in April of 2021 after a tragic struggle with his mental health. The album was dedicated to his memory, and has come to represent much more than two friends making music together.
In the fall of 2021, Leaving Laurel played their first shows ever, with Pierce’s older brother Griff teaming up with Gordon to finesse and posthumously celebrate Pierce’s final creations.
But now we usher in a new beginning, as Gordon carries the project on his own.
‘together (we are more)’ is a taste of things to come, and proves that while the composition of Leaving Laurel as a group may have changed, the next chapter for the project is just getting started…
