Leila Samir is an emerging electronic music producer and DJ with influences in jazz and Arabic music. Growing up in a religious environment, she wasn’t exposed to any Western music until the age of fourteen. “No Music” is her debut EP, named after what was reinforced to her growing up ;“that’s what I was told my whole life”, she recalls. As well as music production, studying in London has given her the opportunity to explore radio, and she has hosted shows on NTS Radio, Balamii, alongside a residency on Worldwide FM. Her radio shows consist of experimental sounds from the Middle East, jazz, techno and more.
With early support from the legendary Andrew Weatherall, Zaltan and Gilles Peterson on BBC 6Music, "No Music" is a landmark release and a clear sign that Leila Samir is a name to look out for in the future.
