Shleu-Shleu, the Haitian forerunner of what in NYC became <a href="spotify:artist:5djv3o4jvP5cjOL7Yjnjrs">Ska-Shah</a> #1, was one of the great bands. Their combination of swing and delicacy was one reason, but from this distance what stands out from that pre-funk era is their strong Creole flavor, not just in the melodies but in the wonderful solo sax, a style no longer heard.
