Originally, Lil' Johanna was a child pop singer before transforming into a freestyle singer in the late '90s. Lil' Johanna's career began at the age of 11, when her mother sent a demo to a radio station. Soonafter, the burgeoning young singer found a role model in Spanish singing sensation Selena. By 1996, Lil' Johanna was signed to High Power Records (with a distribution deal with Warlock Records), and after hooking up with renowned dance producer Tony "Dr. Edit" Garcia, her debut album was issued, Real Love (which spawned the singles "Take Me in Your Arms" and the album's title track). Half of the songs were sung in English, while the others were in Spanish, while some, such as the tribute song to her hero, "Selena," were included as both English and Spanish versions. ~ Greg Prato, Rovi
