From Houston, Texas - born in Birmingham, Alabama. Lil JSean, born J. Sean Essix, fell in love with rap listening to southern artists during car rides with his older brother Dougie. J began freestyling with his brother when he would visit him in Alabama, and eventually J began rapping in his high school’s cafeteria in front of his peers. After noticing music was J's passion, his mom, CaDori, purchased an iMac computer for J to record his music on. J started vocal tracking himself on the desktop and releasing music videos on Facebook.
Shortly after J started releasing music videos, his brother Dougie passed away in a motorcycle accident — remembering his brother’s belief in his music inspired Lil JSean to invest more into his craft, and dedicate time into learning more about the music industry.
Lil JSean then released his first mixtape Flight in 2013; his EP, Black Friday in early 2014, and open for artists such as Nipsey Hussle and Waka Flocka Flame when they would tour through Houston. J felt that he was doing a lot, but not seeing the growth that he desired, and decided to pause opening for artists to dedicate even more time into learning other aspects of the music industry.
He later released his music video, Trust 'em (feat. Aesja) (from his 2014 EP Yellow Tape) that features his sister, Aesja. The 90's-inspired visual garnered over 4 million views on social media.
J is releasing Black Friday 2, which will feature a record produced by Zaytoven
