“Spit-washed rock and roll meets scrape-me-off-the-ceiling psychedelia—like the soundtrack to some angry, gritty dream.” That’s Zach Davison, chief brains and brawn of the Manchester-based psychedelic rock outfit ‘Lola’, outlining the creative vision of their explosive and yet deliberate songwriting.
It’s a sound that wears its 1960s and ‘70s rock influences on its sleeve, coupled with influences from some fresher faces of the psychedelic rock genre, a la Ty Segall, BRMC, The Black Angels, and yet out from all that noise is something utterly unique.
After the disbandment of the Sour Grapes Records signed ‘Sioux’, Zach carved out a new musical story and became the brainchild behind ‘Lola’. Having released a slew of singles throughout 2022 and 2023, which garnered national radio play and features on notable webzines, Zach took a self-described “sabbatical” in 2024 to home in on a new sound for 2025 and onward. “I wanted to reconnect with my roots—rock and roll! Early Stones, Zeppelin, T. Rex: I want that f**k off energy but held together with notes of head-in-the-clouds psychedelia.”
Out from that hiatus comes Lola’s first single of 2025, ‘I Came Here to Conquer’—a fuzz-laden, punch-drunk number that rises and falls from cacophony to cacophony in true psychedelic rock fashion, mixed and mastered by the inimitable Jason Shaw of Fuzzface Studios.
