David began his musical journey back in the early 90's, in hip hop. Inspired by such artists as EPMD, Gang Starr and Rakim, David began recording his own songs on cassette tapes, rapping over hip hop instrumentals. He finished his first demo in high school that he submitted to Erick Sermon's label - Bandit Management and received a letter back that his material was being reviewed. Nothing ever came of the submission, other than the will and drive to continue writing and record hip hop music. Over the years he continued working on his craft, until he joined a rock band that was in search of a front man. They formed the rap rock band known as The Angry Pockets. (David Curtin - Lead Vocal, Greg Mallick - Drums, Bryce Downey (RIP) - Guitar and Todd Bogley (RIP) - Bass. They recorded a record in 2000, began playing shows and generated enough hype and exposure to get signed by Ghostface Killah's independent record label - Starks Enterprises, Epic Records was set to be the distribution label. After a couple years of working towards distribution, the deal fell through. At this point in his musical journey, David lost interest in rap rock and with the hip hop genre, which at that point had become over commercialized and the culture changed. He became more interested in musical instrumentation and song writing. And so began his journey as a singer-songwriter, inspired by such artists as Neil Halstead, Sparklehorse and Damien Jurado.
