For over three decades, Ryan Lum has been the creative force behind Love Spirals Downwards, aka Lovespirals, Love Spirals, and LSD. A multi-instrumentalist, composer, and producer, Lum has crafted an ever-evolving body of music defined by lush textures, intricate melodies, and cinematic emotion. From the atmospheric soundscapes of the 1990s to the genre-fluid explorations of the 2000s and beyond, his work spans ethereal acoustic and electronica dream pop, sometimes with a jazzy, folky, or bluesy edge that expands the boundaries of indie sound.

Originally launched as Love Spirals Downwards on Projekt Records with vocalist Suzanne Perry, and featuring notable guest appearances from Jennifer Ryan Fuller and Suzanne’s sister, Kristen Perry, the project evolved at the turn of the millennium when Anji Bee joined and the pair founded their Chillcuts label. Together, Lum and Bee established Lovespirals as a deeply independent venture, creating a diverse catalog that continues to resonate with longtime listeners and a new generation discovering their music.

Committed to full artistic control, Lum records, mixes, produces, and often masters his own work while preserving his earlier catalog through meticulous remastering and reissues. In recent years, he has revived the Love Spirals Downwards name for a new series of singles that fuse the project’s classic ethereal beauty with contemporary production—demonstrating that his creative vision remains as vital and captivating as ever.
