Singer, songwriter, producer and guitarist Carly Fratianne has been writing and performing since 2016 as a solo artist and as the fearless leader of the blistering alt-blues trio, <a href="spotify:artist:0rIgDeuFh4AwNJY2OuGbrK" data-name="Souther">Souther</a> and moody queer death-pop trio, <a href="spotify:artist:20qSmqrtBPqdtG3X2lv8n5" data-name="wyd">wyd</a>. In a few short years, both projects found regional success; touring throughout the midwest and opening for countless national acts including <a href="spotify:artist:5wFXmYsg3KFJ8BDsQudJ4f" data-name="Manchester Orchestra">Manchester Orchestra</a>, <a href="spotify:artist:0wyMPXGfOuQzNR54ujR9Ix" data-name="Caamp">Caamp</a>, <a href="spotify:artist:5IWCU0V9evBlW4gIeGY4zF" data-name="Waxahatchee">Waxahatchee</a>, <a href="spotify:artist:5x3hUNIfDPxP1Kr0ZaGs64" data-name="Saintseneca">Saintseneca</a> and <a href="spotify:artist:6Pled8lBAODAviS574l1Q4" data-name="Night Moves">Night Moves</a>. In 2019, <a href="spotify:artist:20qSmqrtBPqdtG3X2lv8n5" data-name="wyd">wyd</a> featured in the New York Times' acclaimed independent film: <a href="spotify:album:1O1gNgxVofvNNMucO8tL3S" data-name="Poser (Music from the Original Motion Picture)">Poser (Music from the Original Motion Picture)</a> by Loose Films which debuted at the Tribeca Film Festival in 2021, and was nationally released later that year.
Despite this success, our post-pandemic world found the musician clutching the fragmented remains of both projects, rudderless and drifting in a strange new tide; and in late 2021, Fratianne brought a year's worth of writing into the studio. Together with trusted collaborator Jeremy Steckel, the two carved through the arrangements and fleshed out the material. What emerged is a bold and visceral new sound with infinite possibility; inspired by adventures within and without, self-imposed desolation, and the vast expanse of The Great American Southwest.
