Madhura Dhara is a musician currently based out of Chennai. She has been learning Hindustani Classical Music in the traditions of the Gwalior Gharana from the age of 8. To understand various facets of music in the sub-continent in a more comprehensive way, she went to Kalakshetra to study Carnatic Classical music. She has also spent a summer at the Berklee College of Music to learn Western Music.
In 2019 she got a chance to work with AR Rahman on the song ‘Unakaga’ from the movie Bigil, which was her first foray into playback singing. She has worked as a singer on several projects for AR Rahman and has performed alongside him in Japan and other cities in India. Some of her other works include, ‘Maathare’ from the movie Bigil; ‘Aapena Aagena’ from the movie Skylab; ‘Yen Azhaga’ a song from Ganeshapuram and an independent song ‘Neeyum Isayum’.
Madhura has been teaching Carnatic music since 2020 and is also a trained vocal coach. She is deeply passionate about the healing ability of music and is learning to be a music therapist, by synthesizing all the diverse influences that have shaped her musical journey.
