After living in the Los Angeles metro area for most of her life, Maia Sharp moved to Nashville at the beginning of 2019, partly to be in an unapologetically songwriter centric town and partly as a personal life reboot. It was there that she made Mercy Rising (released 2021), Reckless Thoughts (2023) and now Tomboy (2025).
Maia has always managed to play both sides of the songwriting field, writing for notable artists including Bonnie Raitt, The Chicks, Lisa Loeb, Trisha Yearwood, Art Garfunkel, Cher, Edwin McCain, Terri Clark, Keb' Mo' and many more while still recording her own albums. Through the years Hardly Glamour (1997 Ark 21), Maia Sharp (2002 Concord), Fine Upstanding Citizen (2005 Koch), Echo (2010 Blix Street), Change the Ending (2012 Blix Street), The Dash Between the Dates (2015 eOne) and the latest three releases mentioned above have all enjoyed critical acclaim and Triple A radio success.
Her new album, Tomboy is an ultra authentic Americana-adjacent record steeped in quiet gratitude, internal celebration, and a complete embrace of true self. This latest offering retains her signature poetic, confessional lyricism, expertly crafted songs, and a finely grained timbre described by Ink 19 magazine as “like a snuggly hug from a close friend.” Speaking of close friends, half of the songs on Tomboy feature a talented friend such as Matthew Perryman Jones, Terri Clark, Fancy Hagood, Emily West, Garrison Starr, Sarah Holbrook and Shannon LaBrie.
