Mark Nieuwenhuis is a trumpet player, music composer and producer based in Amsterdam.
He has dedicated his life to channel his musical inspiration into spontaneous and original creations that speak to all open ears and hearts everywhere.
Through the music, he connected with many cultures and musical traditions. This including North African, Middle Eastern, South American and most recently the music and culture of Greece.
Having spent four years touring summers with a well known Greek artist, he found himself inspired by the characteristic Greek rhythms and lyrical melodies. They were fused with his love for improvised music and jazz.
Mark has first released his first self-titled album in 2012. Before that, his musical beginnings were learning the trumpet at 8 years old, producing music at 12, and starting his first band at 18. His musical dreams were shaped studying composition and music production at HKU in Hilversum, where he graduated in 2003. He also composed music for theatre and film and produced recordings for various artists.
His song “Waantje” caught the attention of the producers of a popular show on national Dutch television. It was used in a couple of episodes of “3 op reis”, and later in also in other travel tv shows like “Floortje naar het einde van de wereld” and “Oases in de Oriënt”.
Most recently the song was featured in “Bo” by Joost van Ginkel that was premiered as closing film for the Dutch Film Festival '22 in the Stadschouwburg in Utrecht.
