Baer Traa is a singer/songwriter and multi-instrumentalist with a big love for soul music. Being a trained jazz musician, he got into the songwriter game through his affection for the mellow songwriting of Bill Withers, Leon Bridges and John Mayer and after releasing his first EP in 2019, featuring the radio hit “Stone Cold Woman”, he’s now working on a record of a more produced and layered record. Inspired by the soulful sounds of the Isley Brothers and D’Angelo and the yacht rock sensibilities of the Doobie Brothers and Steely Dan.
“It’s in the Water” is the 2nd single of this new project and new music will follow every other month.
Inspired by DIY soul-legends Prince and D'Angelo, Baer Traa is making a record in isolation, playing most instruments and producing by himself while calling on his bandmates to add some extra flavor. Analog instruments, tight grooves and a burning desire to captain every part of the production process drive the singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist to turning his musical ideas into a creative reality.
“It’s in the Water” is a soulful, funky tune about finding peace in solitude and letting go of one’s worries and sins. Equal parts 70’s westcoast and 90’s neo-soul, the singer songwriter channels his all-time favourite musicians to make a sound that’s still completely his own with his signature smoothly stacked vocals and organic and tight instrumentals hooks.
