Formed by Miguel Membrilla (Granada, 1982) and Francisco Pérez (Jaén, 1983), the duo is based in Granada. “Matsu” means “to wait” in Japanese — a name that reflects their patient, meticulous approach to composition.
Their music often begins as a simple spark: a texture, a rhythm, a mistake. Through experimentation with synthesizers and drum machines, these ideas evolve slowly, leaving only the essence of their original form.
Their debut album Nosotros (2020, WeAreWolves Records) introduced their blend of deep techno, ambient, and neoclassical elements. In 2023, Oscilación explored Aristotle’s theory of motion, tracing sound as matter in transition.
In 2025, Matsu returns with Umbral — a reflection on unstable equilibrium, that fragile threshold where calm hides tension and everything might change. Harmonies stretch and fracture, revealing the quiet beauty of uncertainty.
