Hailing from Brooklyn and incorporating the soundscapes of their western origins, Max Pain and the Groovies are as heavily grounded in their psych-garage rock roots as much as their tradition of dabbling in as many genres under the umbrella of rock ‘n’ roll. It’s sheer instinct for the five-piece to vibe along with the surf psychedelia that got them here, but it doesn’t take onlookers long to realize that their core sound spans from the likes of new-age garage outfits, the ‘60’s San Fran psych-rock scene, to the raw power of the '70's in NYC. And with this old-style-meets-new-sound get up, MP&G stamps their own mark on a scene that oftentimes lacks authenticity and individuality, and their full-length releases, Electro Cosmic (2015) and Ancient Grease (2016), could not be better testimonials. -GreenStreet MGMT
