In a constant dance between life and death, we float. We are tormented by questions of impermanence and human frailty. Fears of loss, uncertainty about what comes next, and all the shades of sorrow in between are themes explored by the music of MELLOM (Norwegian for "between").
The female-fronted duo, founded in 2023 in Frankfurt/Main, creates a fusion of Black and Death Metal elements, enriched with atmospheric components and shaped into accessible forms. A wall of guitars and bass meets driving drums, with piercing vocals reigning supreme, supported by deep, resonant growls. The band features the outstanding voice of Skadi and guitarist Dave.
The drums for their debut album, The Empire of Gloom, were recorded at Thilo Krieger’s Dessert Inn Studio (known for work with Milking the Goatmachine and Lay Down Rotten). The mixing was handled by Simon Werner (Sulphur Aeon), while mastering was entrusted to Viktor at Woodshed Studios (Tryptikon, Bölzer, Schammasch, among others).
