Midrange Burnout is a post-punk outfit from Stockholm. Inspired by iconic post-punk, noise and indie rock bands, they produce danceable bass lines that would make your music teacher kick you out, energetic drumming that sounds like a punk drummer actually listened to their music teacher, and guitar playing that constantly jumps the border between the weird and the beautiful. Fronted by actress/dj/singer Niki Smith, this strange concoction is topped off with powerful, yet frail vocal lines, that explore the existential issues of the post-postmodern human.
After long hours in an industrial area basement, the group released the EP “Don’t answer”. The songs exhibit a determination to combat the malaise of a more and more formulaic, AI-like, mainstream art culture, as well as the dreary realities of 20s local and global political culture. The EP shows a split personality of energetic punky firecrackers, and monotonic melodic brain worms that you can´t stop humming along with, that still come together to form a cohesive record.
