Minimal Compact

Between its foundation in 1980 and its dissolution seven years later, Minimal Compact played an important role in the European rock scene. <a href="spotify:artist:1QpYmgR7tk2xCFdQ9Plezi" data-name="Malka Spigel">Malka Spigel</a> (bass, vocals), <a href="spotify:artist:0pZi8NySW4IcR3nqZFSHnT" data-name="Samy Birnbach">Samy Birnbach</a> (vocals, lyrics) and <a href="spotify:artist:2wp6i8BxLF3UrF1J3LY4WC" data-name="Berry Sakharof">Berry Sakharof</a> (gtrs, keys, vocals) left their native Tel Aviv in 1980 for Amsterdam in search of an escape from the provincial attitudes of their own city. They recorded a 2-song demo at home and became one of the first artists signed to the Belgian Crammed label who released their debut self-titled EP in 1981. A year later came their first LP, One By One and the addition of drummer Max Franken. By 1984&#39;s <a href="spotify:album:6WLsSPzKIxQRcO5cXUEV6O" data-name="Deadly Weapons">Deadly Weapons</a> – produced by <a href="spotify:artist:4zn0m3hBUQVl6Nf36Sb0A6" data-name="Tuxedomoon">Tuxedomoon</a>’s <a href="spotify:artist:2MUm5usw8rC4vVfKf0lcp9" data-name="Peter Principle">Peter Principle</a> - the group had expanded to include <a href="spotify:artist:2PkcEZnrJ3i1f5iJN834mn" data-name="Rami Fortis">Rami Fortis</a> &amp; was touring extensively. Their 1985 album, <a href="spotify:album:3om44LiuU6kZIDTsAdQoxi" data-name="Raging Souls">Raging Souls</a> was produced by <a href="spotify:artist:2i8ynmFv4qgRksyDlBgi6d" data-name="Wire">Wire</a>&#39;s <a href="spotify:artist:7lm6HTAFVQjYvB0kniM6UN" data-name="Colin Newman">Colin Newman</a>, who ended up marrying Spigel. The band also recorded a session for legendary John Peel &amp; In America received exposure on college radio stations, mainly for their more danceable tracks. The group tried coming to the U.S. in 1987 after the release of <a href="spotify:album:2nZs9h1M09bF8h4NdigQr7" data-name="The Figure One Cuts">The Figure One Cuts</a> ; however, their visas were denied. They broke up in 1988. Sakharof &amp; Fortis returned to Israel, building careers together &amp; separately. Birnbach became <a href="spotify:artist:2nDDks6XhdAvWmvykHYxUx" data-name="Dj Morpheus">Dj Morpheus</a> while Spigel continued to collaborate extensively with her husband Newman on her own projects, <a href="spotify:artist:70rsyhGzfQKX1k8QZDzK1d" data-name="Immersion">Immersion</a> &amp; <a href="spotify:artist:4zJdqcSR9OIdT8bjYunHnE" data-name="Githead">Githead</a>.
The band have made several comebacks since the 80&#39;s, 2019&#39;s resulting in <a href="spotify:album:5rOG3aTh3R02hdwI6hGChm" data-name="Creation Is Perfect">Creation Is Perfect</a>.
