One of the more visible Chicano rappers and the founder and CEO of Southland Records, Mister D debuted his particular style of Latino culture-focused gangster rap with his 2000 album, Deep in the Game. Heading the label, he was able to foster the careers of many other Chicano rap artists while steadily releasing new music of his own, and the label became home to a family of like-minded artists and collaborators like Sleepy Malo, Solo, A Lighter Shade of Brown, and many others. Mister D had a huge hit with his track "Gangstas Get Lonely Too" in 2004, and had several singles featuring the vocals of G-funk crooner Nate Dogg. The next decade saw Mister D releasing music constantly, with numerous collaborations, mixtapes, and albums of his own, like 2009's Year of the Gangster and 2015's Still in the Game. ~ Fred Thomas, Rovi
