mobdividual, a word mash-up of "mob" and "individual"; has a couple of
different meanings. The first being an individual's ability to refrain from deep thought, such-that their level of opinion does not reach above a mob-type mentality. The use of technology compounds this ill/delusion by allowing one person an enormous
virtual presence. The second, which is my focus as a musician, is a single person
attempting to be a noise orchestra.
I have several experimental sound and music projects going back to 1998, but
I started performing and recording as mobdividual in 2010. I have self-released six
short albums under that moniker and a myriad of tapes, compilations (which are
always non-album, new tracks) available in physical form as well as various places
on the internet. I have a home studio where I record and mix my own albums. I
typically use a provocative quote from a personally inspiring individual for the album
title and song titles. Each album expresses a variety of concepts through its artwork,
quotations and song titles. Liner notes are provided to discuss the recording
process, equipment as well as the ideas quoted. Sonically all the songs are
seamless with no breaks and always instrumental.
I perform regularly at DIY venues, art exhibits, festivals and use creative events for site specific performance sound pieces.
