The haunting, bittersweet melodies of LA-based shoegaze veterans Modern Time Machines have been called a “noisy, romantic hurricane for those who like their rock with intricate layers” (Buzzbands LA). Described as "good-feeling indie rockers" by A.V. Club, MTM's boy/girl vocal harmonies feature heavily in their feedback-laced love songs, which have drawn comparisons to acts like M83, Medicine and Sonic Youth.
Following the local momentum of their earliest shows, the band’s music began receiving strong radio support from LA’s KROQ 106.7FM. Continually refining their sound with “nuanced playing and killer hooks” (Los Angeles Times), the band was invited to perform live nationally on the premiere episode of Adult Swim’s cult TV hit The Eric Andre Show, and their tunes can be heard on the soundtracks of films such as the award-winning independent 2020 film "Dramarama".
Deadline.com premiered MTM's new single "Ghost Signs (Sleight of Hand)" in July 2024, with the song's accompanying music video taking viewers and listeners on a years-in-the-making LA-themed time travel journey.
The band's most recent EP "Beachtime" dropped in August, 2023, and features a trio of deep cut Beach Boys cover songs, with musical contributions from Wayne Everett (The Lassie Foundation) and Kaitlin Wolfberg (that dog).
An upcoming Modern Time Machines collaboration with the late Grammy winning songwriting legend Allee Willis is on the horizon – stay tuned.
