A devotee of classic country who isn't quite beholden to tradition, Moot Davis injects his Americana with a flinty modern sensibility and a hint of rock & roll. His blend of the past and the present made him a favorite of film and television producers, earning him placement in the Academy Award-winning 2004 film Crash, the 2006 horror remake The Hills Have Eyes, and a 2010 episode of Supernatural, but his steady stream of albums -- beginning in 2004 and stretching into the 2010s -- is what built him a cult following.
Originally from Trenton, New Jersey, Davis started performing professionally at the dawn of the 2000s. He originally headed to New York but wound up in Nashville in 2001. A year after his move, he headed out to Los Angeles to record an album with <a href="spotify:artist:5sseq3Cdv2JbcVy49XfuWb">Pete Anderson</a>. Davis' eponymous first album came out on <a href="spotify:artist:5sseq3Cdv2JbcVy49XfuWb">Anderson</a>'s <a href="spotify:search:label%3A%22Little+Dog+Records%22">Little Dog Records</a> in 2004. That same year, he received a break when his "Whiskey Town" appeared in Paul Haggis' Oscar-winning Crash.
Davis released his second album -- the Nashville-recorded Already Moved On -- in 2007. In 2012, he switched to his self-owned imprint <a href="spotify:search:label%3A%22Highway+Kind%22">Highway Kind</a> for Man About Town. Davis signed to <a href="spotify:search:label%3A%22Burnside%22">Burnside</a> for 2014's Goin' in Hot. His fifth album, Hierarchy of Crows, arrived in 2017. ~ Stephen Thomas Erlewine, Rovi
