Nigel Tay makes music for the ones who feel too much, but say too little.
Born in Malaysia and raised in church, Nigel started playing drums at the age of three, taught by his father, a singer and musician. That early spark grew into a quiet obsession: learning every instrument he could and letting music speak when words fell short.
In 2010, Nigel moved to the United States, spending 10 formative years navigating identity, culture, and faith. Music became his way through. After graduating from Berklee College of Music, he moved to Los Angeles with nothing but a hard drive full of demos and a dream.
Then, a stripped-down cover of Wildest Dreams caught the attention of Taylor Swift—and everything changed. That viral moment led to The Voice of China, where Nigel placed 7th, and began a new chapter: writing and performing in Mandarin. It wasn’t just about translation—it was about relearning how to feel in a language he had drifted from.
Now an independent artist and producer based in Shanghai, Nigel creates bilingual R&B that blends soul, vulnerability, and emotional nuance. From the soft groove of “七八杯” to the textured melancholy of “伪君子 (Hypocrite),” his songs move between English and Mandarin like thoughts at midnight—raw, honest, and unfiltered.
If you’re new here, welcome. If you’ve been here—thank you for listening through every season.
