Nothing Much To Lose (stylised in lowercase) are a shoegaze band that formed in 2022 and are based in Essex in the south-east of England. Consisting of Alex Smithyes (vocals + guitar, also bass and drums on recordings), Scarlett Calvert (vocals + guitar), Johnny Callaghan (bass), and Zach Watts (drums). All songs are self-produced.
NMTL began in 2022 with just Scarlett and Alex. Heavily inspired by early shoegaze/noise rock bands such as my bloody valentine, Slowdive, Sonic Youth and The Smashing Pumpkins , they released a collection of "instrumental demos" on youtube and soundcloud, some of which would later be used in their debut EP "crush". They then focused their efforts on their debut single "it's never over" which would release the following year on 7/8/23.
This single then spawned the idea to make their debut 6 song EP "crush" which released on 27/11/23, once the recording of "crush" had been completed by Scarlett and Alex, Johnny and Zach joined during the mixing and mastering period. The group are currently active.
