Based in Topeka, Kansas, this US death metal band was formed in 1997 by Paul Ryan (guitar/vocals), Jeremy Turner (guitar/vocals), Mark Manning (vocals), Clint Appelhanz (bass), and George Fluke (drums). A number of early line-up changes saw the latter pair replaced by John Longstreth (drums) and Doug Williams (b. 9 November 1969, Independence, Missouri, USA; bass) before the release of the band’s self-titled debut album in 2000. Song titles such as ‘Vomit You Out’ and ‘Mental Torment’ indicated the album’s relatively straightforward death metal concerns, but the 2002 follow-up Informis Infinitas Inhumanitas, saw Origin steering into more complex technical death metal territory. The album featured new members James Lee (vocals) and Mike Flores (bass), but the turnover of personnel continued apace with Turner and Longstreth both leaving. Appelhanz returned as a guitarist and James King was recruited as the new drummer. The duo appeared on 2005’s Echoes Of Decimation but left the following year to join Turner in Unmerciful. By the end of 2007 Longstreth and Turner had rejoined Origin, meaning the line-up from the second album was in place to complete the recording of Antithesis.
