Singer Palmenia Pizarro was born in the bosom of a poor Chilean family. Inspired by '50s Peruvian vals and local folklore, Pizarro started singing at the age of seven, moving to Santiago de Chile while still a teenager to perform at different radio stations' shows. After winning a contest called Asi Canta Perú, the young singer recorded her first single, including "Mi Pobreza" and "Amarga Experiencia," released in 1963. Soon she issued her debut album called Que Lindo Canta Palmenia. Later, a song composed by Augusto Campos called "Cariño Malo" became a huge success. After touring the country in 1971, Palmenia Pizarro started traveling through Latin America, having the opportunity to participate in Puerto Rican's Festival de La Voz y la Canción, being one of its finalists. In 1975, her song "Ajeno" climbed on Mexican charts, and she decided to settle down in that country for more than two decades. During that time Pizarro toured Central America, the U.S., Australia, and Europe. In 1997, the artist returned to Chile. ~ Drago Bonacich, Rovi
