“These mother fuckers…You come into it thinking you’re in for a punk show. But this is so much more. This is a pretty darn respectable recapitulation, a rather masterful weaving together of a delicious (and deliciously malicious) melange of rocking the fuck out. Pancho and the Wizards are polyglots. Well versed—and effortlessly so—on the multiple veins and arteries of rock’s hard-edged corpus. They wear their influences on their sleeves, without sacrificing one iota of creativity and originality. Impressive is how they make it look effortless, tossed off. They flirt with an air or ennui, but they are, really, just cool. Without, at all, trying to affect cool. Punk rock of course holds the center. But, arrayed around it, like a bouquet of badassery, you’re as likely to witness metal speed-shredding as you are to catch Sabbath riffage as you are to discern clear nods to early Pumpkins as you are to marvel at the heady prog touches as you are to drop into 80s punk bopping. The left and right turns keep you guessing, belie craft and thought at play amidst the scrappy chaos. What Pancho and the Wizards do, what they put forth on that stage, appears tossed off, lo-fi, garage-y. But this is actually highly exacting execution. Not a note out of place. This is propelling, purposive, even pummeling. Even as it is just… a fucking great, lighthearted time.”
