Pauline Shivers was born on April 28, 1933, in Memphis, TN, and split her early years between Memphis and Chicago—two vibrant cities in the R&B world. In Chicago, she carved out a career as both a recording artist and a captivating live performer.
In 1963, following a nationally-charting single, Shivers shared the stage with legends like B.B. King and Ike & Tina Turner. She later teamed up with Chicago record producer Bill Lasley, releasing several tracks on his Opex and Expo labels. While her records saw modest success outside of Chicago, they kept her a beloved fixture in Northside clubs and earned her a devoted following among record collectors.
Later in life, Shivers shifted away from secular music, dedicating herself to her church community as a soloist and youth choir director. She remained a passionate force in gospel music until her passing in 1997.
