Pen Ran is the second most famous female Cambodian singer of all time. Her musical career flourished in early 1960s when her songs were recorded side by side with Sinn Sisamouth. Pen Ran's debut singles were released by Angkor, and Cambodian record labels. She was one of the original female artists who performed duets with Sinn Sisamouth.
Pen Ran was born in Battabang province of Cambodia. Her music represented the Cambodian Golden Era. Pen Ran's styles of music was very diverse. She sang from anything from traditional to slow rock and hippy songs. Her most recognized songs were Haha Rom Svay "Monkey" and "I am not satisfied". Pen Ran was active in her musical career from the 1960s to 1970s. During the Cambodian "Khmer Rouge" Genocide, Pen Ran disappeared and was presumed executed in 1978.
