Pete Astor was the singer and songwriter in The Loft and The Weather Prophets; both bands were on Creation Records from the beginning and helped establish the feel and sound of the label. After this Astor made a series of solo records, selected on Injury Time (Solo 89-93). He then branched out into making more electronic based music, forming The Wisdom of Harry and Ellis Island Sound (with David Sheppard) signing to Matador and Heavenly respectively, releasing albums under these guises until the early 2000s. At this time, he also started teaching music at Goldsmiths, running the Songwriting course. He is now Senior Lecturer at the University of Westminster. In the 2000s Astor started making solo records again, for a variety of labels: Hal’s Eggs for Static Caravan, Songbox for Second Language, Spilt Milk for Fortuna Pop. In 2017 he signed to Tapete, home to Robert Forster, Lloyd Cole and Comet Gain among many estimable others, releasing One for the Ghost in 2018. He also runs his own boutique label (Est.1096), Faux Lux, releasing an album of covers, You Made Me, music by Ellis Island Sound, a spoken word/ electronic, The Attendant.
