Essentially a swing-based clarinetist, Phil Bodner has spent most of his career as a studio musician. Among his more notable jazz gigs have been with <a href="spotify:artist:1pBuKaLHJlIlqYxQQaflve">Benny Goodman</a> (1955), the <a href="spotify:artist:0NSaDbZ3bVycmiRGhVvjyX">Gil Evans Orchestra</a> with <a href="spotify:artist:0kbYTNQb4Pb1rPbbaF0pT4">Miles Davis</a> (1958), <a href="spotify:artist:2nQKUeZeleLGNsJj6WLUXN">Oliver Nelson</a> (1962), <a href="spotify:artist:3hZ5sdhYTvgrmXIwtVwqmS">J.J. Johnson</a> (1965-1968), and <a href="spotify:artist:4jXfFzeP66Zy67HM2mvIIF">Bill Evans</a> (1974). In addition to his group <a href="spotify:artist:4ZTxcROH7Yypq9ZSVSDpag">the Brass Ring</a>, he has recorded just a few sets as a leader (for Stash and Jazz Mania), making one regret that he could not have spent a larger portion of his career playing jazz. ~ Scott Yanow, Rovi
