Pyx Lax are widely considered the most influential and commercially successful rock band in Greek music history. Formed in Athens in 1988 by Filippos Pliatsikas, Babis Stokas, Sakis Stamoulis, and Panayiotis Spyropoulos, the band began their career with a demo cassette that caught the attention of record labels and producer Manos Xydous, who soon joined the group. Their debut album, Ti Allo Na Pis Pio Apla, laid the foundation for their fusion of rock, entechno, and traditional Greek elements.
Their breakthrough came with 1993’s O O Ilios Tou Himona Me Melagholi, and they confirmed their status with Gia Tous Prigipes Tis Ditikis Ohthis, an ode to the working-class neighborhoods of western Athens, followed by a string of successful albums, earning gold and platinum records.
Known for hits like Den Tha Dakriso Pia Gia Sena and Monaxia Mou Ola, Monaxia Mou Tipota, the band also collaborated with Sting, Eric Burdon, among others. Their final pre-breakup album, Haroumeni Stin Poli Ton Trelon, marked an experimental peak.
They disbanded in 2004 but reunited in 2011 for a national tour in memory of Manos Xydous, performing for over 85,000 in Athens and 50,000 in Thessaloniki.
