Originally going under the name of Paint, the lineup of Brian Gray (bass), Christopher Paul (guitar), Brian Mclaughlin (drums), Werner Gray (guitar), and Jina Yi (vocals) eventually changed it to Racecar after receiving a cease and desist order in 1995 from a New York band under the same name. Despite their moniker change, their simple structure of indie pop remained as Queenie Records released their 1995 debut album Girlish.
