Vancouver based artist Ray Black is an innovative DJ/Vocalist who’s work is transforming the face of electronic music. Ray takes inspiration from artists within Future Beats, Wave, and Dub ; the result is an ethereal yet hard-hitting sound uniquely his own. Listeners find themselves on a journey riding at the forefront of this ever growing musical movement.
Combining conscious lyrics and rhythmic beats, his sound on its own is a journey through space and time in a party atmosphere. With a natural and undeniable presence on the turntables, Ray seamlessly incorporates live vocals with original remixes and mashups. The overall aesthetic is one that must not only be heard but witnessed to be fully experienced.
Ray Black has been a DJ/ Vocalist in Vancouver’s music scene for the past 10 years and during that time joined Hip Hop Collective Sweatshop Union. Additionally, Black’s diverse style has allowed him to tour around North America and play festivals including Shambhala, Bass Coast, SXSW, Bamboo Bass Festival,Astral Harvest and CMW, where he has shared the stage with artists such as Talib Kweli, Mac Miller, Craze, Mr. Carmack and Hilltop Hoods.
Currently in the studio with an E.P slated for a Summer 2021 release, Ray Black will be releasing a few singles leading up to the date. With a guided focus on creating something unique, accessible and transformative, Black’s work will no doubt be a pioneering element in this thriving and ever changing bass music community
