Reagan Youth is a political hardcore punk band that embraces the "Anarchy + Peace & Unity" school of thought. Reagan Youth parodies and jokes about Republicanism, the Religious Right, racists, and of course, Ronald Reagan's policies. The band formed in 1980 with Paul “Cripple” Bakija and his friend and classmate Dave "Insurgent" Rubinstein while attending Forest Hills High School. Reagan Youth quickly became a staple in the early NYHC scene, performing at legendary venues like CBGB. Throughout the 1980s, they toured extensively, releasing two albums: Volumes I & II. When Reagan left office in 1989, the band disbanded. After the breakup, Paul and Dave stayed musically active, working with bassist Chris Simunek and drummer Javier Madriaga on a psychedelic rock project called HOUSE OF GOD. In 1993, Dave Insurgent tragically took his own life after the deaths of his girlfriend Tiffany Bresciani and his mother, Giza Rubinstein, who died three days apart. Paul reformed the band in 2006, leading to new recordings and several tours in the U.S. and Europe. Despite various lineup changes, Paul remained the constant driving force behind the band. In 2023, Paul began recording Volume III with singer Madame St. Beatrice and drummer Mark Zapata—a concept album about the life and times of Dave Insurgent, which was completed in 2024.
